June’s taster night was in Pontefract – a place which looks amazing when you get the right sunset.
Landscape is always a gamble – never more so then when doing a workshop!
So the light failed us, so we focuessed more on technique – showing people how to meter using spot metering and ND grads, metering without filter, shooting for HDR.
Then we started doing a bit of lateral thinking – looking for photo opportunies where there appeared to be nothing. The nettle shot was a case in point – a plant no more than 6 inches high which everyone walked past…. if you lie next to it, you can use it as a foreground feature!
Anyway – the shots in this gallery are all from a location and in weather conditions 99% of landscape photographers would have walked away from… sure a sunset would have been amazing, but hopefully they illustrate that with a bit of imagination, creative camera skill and processing knowledge, you can create something reasonable from almost any situation
