Feedback from recent Yorkshire photography workshops
Having always been really interested in photography I invested in a digital SLR camera, after a couple of years I hadn’t really used it other than in the automatic settings so decided it was time to see what my camera could really do. I happened to come across an offer for a photography workshop in Leeds with McFade Training and signed up, this happened to be the best thing I ever did. The whole day was fantastic Adrian Wilson is a great teacher and I have gone on to learn so much more than I could ever have imagined. I have done many more workshops with McFade Training since and learnt so many new techniques including nighttime photography, HDR & photo processing in Lightroom and Photoshop. My interest has now become a real passion and I view my surroundings in a whole new way, I can’t recommend McFade Training highly enough if you want to learn the joys of photography then Adrian is definitely your man.

I am really new to photography, I have had my SRL only 4 weeks! Having taken part in McFade’s Discover Leeds training two weeks ago and learned so much about how to compose a photograph, I booked on his second course, Taking Control. After only 6 hours I have gone from only being able to use the auto shoot facility to now been confident in setting up the camera manually and being really in control of it. Doing the course has quickly taught me how to set the exposure, the shutter speed and the ISO speed and by 2.00pm I was metering all by myself!
The blessing of this group is that it is small and Ade spends a lot of time with everyone individually. He has a great no nonsense approach to teaching and is more than happy to tell you things over and over again until it ‘clicks’ He has a lovely relaxed style and no one feels unable to ask the ‘daft question’
I came away from this day knowing such a lot about my camera and took some great shots along the way
My highlights were
- learning how to get light trails from cars
- how to capture a drop of water mid air
- setting exposure to a particular element of the subject I want to photograph
- finding hidden photo opportunities in a different part of Leeds to the discover Leeds day
but most of all knowing my camera and what I can do with it rather than relying on automatic settings.
If you have an SLR ;and can only do one thing – book yourself on the Take Control course with McFade – you will definitely not regret it.

“Big thanks to Ade and Eleni for the 1-2-1 strobist workshop the other day, it was awesome!
I’ve been on a few of the Monday night taster sessions and really enjoyed the flash evenings and wanted to learn more as you are somewhat restricted on the tasters by the amount of time available and the number of people attending.
On the 1-2-1 session I learned how it’s really done. We started with the flash on camera, using all the ETTL controls, then moved off camera, using radio triggers. Although it was a lot to take in I had loads of time to watch and learn as Ade explained how to set the lights and camera up in lots of locations. After which it was my turn to practice placing the lights, setting the flash power & camera exposure etc which resulted in some great shots of Eleni.
I’m really happy with the results and looking forward to the next workshop……”

Just a note I have completed two evening and 1 full day workshop with Mcfade training… I must say that I’ve learned a lot … The training is hands on.. Adrian is great he will help you with other aspects I.e. camera controls during the training .. I have made some great friends during these training workshops… I’m already booked on the HDR training.. Mcfade training gave me a 20% discount voucher for downloading HDR software.. Personally training with Mcfade comes high recommended..

I really enjoyed Saturday, defo learnt lots & good bunch of guys!! I’m impressed with some of the shots I took (under your guidance!!). Really made me think about the composition of a shot before taking it, even if it is just Auntie Mary’s 80th birthday!!

- Yes, the discover Leeds was a great day out
- Haven’t been on any of your workshops yet.

I have completed several courses with Ade including 1-2-1 Strobist, HDR Masterclass and Landscape classes and found each and everyone to be outstanding and have come away brimming with excitement with the tools and knowledge to take my photograph to the next level. I have learned a lot and any questions I did not ask at the time have been answered after the event. Ade, has the patience of a saint, can teache at all levels of ability in a form that everyone can understand and on top of this, you have fun while learning at the same time. A fabulous day out and I have no hesitation in recommending Ade.
