Picking a spot in Leeds was like choosing your favourite biscuit\u2014difficult, but ultimately rewarding. So, I packed my Godox AD600 and other trusty gear and set off with an open mind.<\/p>\n<h4>The Bridge Over A58M: A Changed Landscape<\/h4>\n<p>Last time we were here, the bridge over the A58M was a no-go due to the homeless community. But times have changed, and the area was empty, making it an ideal backdrop for some off-camera flash magic with the Godox AD600.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With my trusty <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wexphotovideo.com\/canon-eos-5d-mark-iv-digital-slr-camera-body-1605233\/\">Canon camera kit<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.godox.com\/EN\/Products_Camera_Flash_Witstro_AD600_Powerfou&amp;Portable_Flash.html\">GODOX AD600<\/a>&#8216;s (and an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.godox.com\/EN\/Products_Witstro_Pocket_Flash_AD200.html\">AD200<\/a>) we cracked on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The photos of this blog are in chronological order.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We started with a&nbsp; fairly simple Set up, with a softbox attached to a GODOX AD600 flash head lighting and the front right. Behind there was a GODOX ad200 with a blue GEL on it.&nbsp; You can just about see it lighting the concrete and a bit on his shoulders.&nbsp; To add a bit of interest, I walked behind a lot of weeds and shot through the growth with the 70-200 lens. The first was pointing towards the sun so I had to dial down the exposure to stop the background overexposing. The following photos just used one GODOX AD600 with hard light reflector, lighting Andy in the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/creating-depth-understanding-the-importance-of-foreground-middleground-and-background\/%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Creating Depth: Understanding the Importance of Foreground, Middleground, and Background\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"157880\">foreground<\/a>,&nbsp; and ad200 behind him. We ditched the 3rd light &#8211;&nbsp; mainly to reduce the amount of Kit we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/why-industry-needs-regular-professional-photos\/\">needed to move between photos<\/a>, and also no not to obstruct people passing by.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;So these first two, which I have toned blue in Lightroom, the front light was over my right shoulder as I photographed and the backlight was pointing directly at Andy. He either sat or stood on the railings.&nbsp; It\u2019s always a bit scary as if anyone gets injured, you want a nurse with vast experience on hand to mend them if they fool,&nbsp; not for the nurse with vast experience to be the one who falls! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11888\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0139-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0139-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0139-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0139-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With this setup I left the GODOX AD600 down below creating the same kind of ribbed light pattern. Then placed the 200 flash on the Walk way&nbsp; to the left of Andy, just out of sight, so that was illuminating his head and body.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From here we could quite easily get a lot of variety, just by me moving around. All the images in this section were taken with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/the-essential-70-200-f2-8-lens-why-every-photographer-wants-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">70-200 lens<\/a>, you can see the variety you can achieve in this zoom range. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11889\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0143-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0143-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0143-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/0143-Andy-Taylor-Boocock-2020_07_14-by-McFade-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&nbsp;The composition is all about Lines. That is why I enjoy photographing at this bizarre concrete monstrosity.&nbsp; It is an over-engineered brutalist concrete structure, which is full of texture, lines, light and Shadow.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You just need to put someone somewhere in the scene and light them, the structure takes care of everything else. We can use the railings, deck&nbsp; and buildings for this. There is lots of room for me to move around with this setup, as I\u2019m on a long foot path. That was great, but the sky just wasn&#8217;t the most exciting behind him from this position. Working with a familiar model in a familiar place may seem a bit predictable.
