To total beginners, photography is a new, exciting pastime \u2013 but with a learning-curve as steep as Hardknott Pass!<\/p>\n

This is the philosophy behind my Discover Leeds and Take Control workshops.<\/p>\n
To become a competent photographer, you need proficiency in both areas:-<\/p>\n
So the 2 disciplines are split with McFade Training.<\/p>\n
We concentrate entirely on finding things to shoot whilst walking around on of the UK\u2019s finest cities. Emphasis is on changing your view point, using your lenses to warp reality, making ash-trays look cool, seeking out reflections, telling the story of Leeds to someone who\u2019s never been\u2026 \u00a0we do touch on Exposure Compensation, and sometimes I\u2019ll get you into Aperture Priority mode to illustrate a point\u2026 but other than that, we\u2019re in Auto Exposure so we can concentrate entirely on \u201cthe subject\u201d.<\/p>\n
This is all about developing a firm understanding of how your camera settings work, diagnosing issues, thinking like a photographer\u2026 it\u2019s powerful information where where we learn about:-<\/p>\n
We start with 4 \u201cexperiments\u201d to show you what each variable does \u2013 often an epiphany.<\/p>\n
We learn \u201cwhy\u201d we choose settings. It\u2019s fine to know \u201chow\u201d, that\u2019s just turning knobs \u2013 understanding \u201cwhy\u201d is the gateway to creative photography<\/a>. We\u2019ll do this for the entire afternoon. At first you\u2019ll be completely lost, it\u2019s new, it\u2019s natural. But with guidance and repetition and variation of subject, you\u2019ll gradually find it coming naturally.<\/p>\n At the end of the day you will understand the thought process behind how we create images, and also the ability achieve them on your camera.<\/p>\n Information overload \u2013 if you\u2019re new, then rethinking how you see the world on the Discover day is enough for anyone. Add in there all the stuff on metering and aperture, then you\u2019ll end up confusing a lot of people.<\/p>\n We believe that it\u2019s better to go away fully learning one concept, than part learning a lot of things.<\/p>\n Doing both courses, usually a few weeks apart, gives people time to practice the creative side then come armed with curiosity and questions on the Take Control day.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nWhy Split them?<\/h2>\n
