Castleford, a small town in West Yorkshire, is a treasure trove of photographic opportunities. My adventure began by the River Aire, which was brimming and roaring as it cascaded over the weir. I snapped away with my trusty 70-200mm lens, capturing the scene in all its glory. The bridge’s structure is a photographer’s dream \u2013 its illuminated, curved deck paired with the neighbouring weir and intriguingly angled legs make for superb photographic material.<\/p>\n

Capturing Stillness<\/h3>\n

But the real magic happened when I used a long exposure to capture the water’s movement. Gone were the roaring waves, replaced by a serene, textured blue. The effect was almost magical \u2013 proof of the power of a long exposure in altering our perception of nature.<\/p>\n

The Grand View<\/h3>\n

This wider shot encapsulates the bridge in all its glory. Standing around 15 to 20 feet tall and stretching a good 100 metres in length, it commands attention. Just behind looms the weir, an ever-present backdrop to this impressive feat of engineering.<\/p>\n

Historical Ties<\/h3>\n

The bridge is situated adjacent to the old flour mill, once powered by the weir. Behind it, you can catch a glimpse of the historic church, providing a picturesque backdrop steeped in history.<\/p>\n

This final shot spotlights the flour mill, highlighted by the green lichen lit up by my torch \u2013 a rather splendid hue, if I may say so.<\/p>\n

Right next to the bridge is the old flour mill. Back in the day, this place was powered by the weir \u2013 talk about green energy before it was cool!<\/p>\n

Peek behind the mill, and you’ll spot the church. It’s been standing there since before telly was invented, watching over Castleford like a protective grandparent.<\/p>\n

Last up, we’ve got the flour mill again, but this time it’s sporting a fancy green coat. That’s not paint \u2013 it’s lichen, nature’s own street art. I lit it up with my torch, and it came out looking proper smart.<\/p>\n
