Riga, Latvia, with 641,007 inhabitants (July 2015), Riga is the largest city<\/a> of the Baltic states<\/a> and home to more than one third of Latvia’s population.\u00a0The city lies on the Gulf of Riga<\/a>, at the mouth of the Daugava<\/a>. Riga’s territory covers 307.17\u00a0km2<\/sup> (118.60\u00a0sq\u00a0mi) and lies between 1 and 10 metres<\/a> (3.3 and 32.8\u00a0ft) above sea level<\/a>,[6]<\/a><\/sup> on a flat and sandy plain.<\/p>\n[\/ct_message]\n

Hot Summer Visit to Riga, Latvia<\/h2>\n

In Newcastle, “Baltic” means “very cold”.<\/p>\n

Nothing could have been further from the truth when we visited in August 2015. It was in the high 20’s, cloudless skies and a light, refreshing breeze made it perfect for walking around with the camera.<\/p>\n

Our hotel was on the edge of the Old Town, the small 800 year old centre of this large city. It’s full of character and characters, with a distinctive style of architecture – it looks\u00a0a little like Prague in parts, but also has tall, thin streets like Seville<\/p>\n
