It&#8217;s a look that&#8217;s had a very long run, how long it&#8217;ll last for is\u00a0debatable, so I decided to err towards a different look with my\u00a0portraits.<\/p>\n<p>My current thinking is that the world outside creates a timeless\u00a0backdrop\u00a0to your\u00a0family pictures, especially in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria where you have stunning hills and coastlines on your door step. In the following shot, the family are in their grannies\u00a0back yard, now their mother and father&#8217;s &#8211; a really significant place for them, full of memories from childhood, so a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/plating-perfection-must-have-photos-for-restaurants-to-whet-appetites-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perfect place for them to have photos<\/a> of their young family taken.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_98\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-98\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-98\" title=\"mcfade_portarits_21\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21-33x50.jpg 33w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21-50x75.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_21.jpg 491w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-98\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In your back yard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this shot we see a totally different feel, an urban location, fast moving traffic scoring lines across the backdrop as Anthony stands still, taking stock of the world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_126.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-93 alignnone\" title=\"mcfade_portarits_126\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_126-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tree and flower lined woods look fantastic in the spring and early summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/creating-depth-understanding-the-importance-of-foreground-middleground-and-background\/\">creating a unique\u00a0background\u00a0every<\/a> minute as the sun changes the shadows and light.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_94.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-94\" title=\"mcfade_portarits_94\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_94-190x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other thing I really like about shooting outdoors, especially with kids, is that its makes people behave more naturally &#8211; let kids (or even grown men) loose with a foot ball, get them on the swings, let them play, let them be\u00a0themselves, let the photos reflect what they are &#8220;really&#8221; like, not some rigidly posed version of them that doesn&#8217;t convey their personality.<\/p>\n<p>So that&#8217;s what I like about shooting outside &#8211; more opportunities than inside.<\/p>\n<p>The flip side is that its technically more difficult than studio, you have an ever changing source of light to deal with &#8211; the sun &#8211; which you have to balance up with your own lighting. Thing is, to me, that&#8217;s what makes outdoor portraits exciting &#8211; you never quite know what you&#8217;re going to get and your technical ability with camera and light are tested on each shoot \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_181.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-90\" title=\"mcfade_portarits_181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mcfade.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/mcfade_portarits_181-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I guess the traditional &#8220;Family portrait&#8221;
