Yellow fields of Discovery<\/h1>\n

Discovering just what Tilt Shift can do is great fun – and you have to be hands on.<\/p>\n

Sure, I’d seen 10 Youtube videos so had a good idea what I needed to do – but here are a few examples from my first landscape trip in summer 2017.<\/p>\n

Tilt Shift Increasing that depth of Field<\/h2>\n

For landscapes, this is the main reason you’d use them. You want to get as much sharp as possible – that foreground flower to the distant mountain.<\/p>\n

To do this I did this:-<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Got the camera perfectly level – tilt back to 0 and no shift at all.<\/li>\n
  2. Worked out the exposure NOW – apparently, it goes pear shaped if you do it tilted\/shifted!<\/li>\n
  3. Switch live view on and focus on something 1\/3 into the shot – in these, it was some flowers a little way in<\/li>\n
  4. Zoom in on live view to something in the background<\/a> – that tree in this case<\/li>\n
  5. Now TILT – just tilt anyway – till the tree gets sharp.<\/li>\n
  6. Move the live zoom view back to the foreground flowers<\/li>\n
  7. Re-focus a little till these are sharp<\/li>\n
  8. Go to step 5 and repeat – maybe a few times – till everything looks sharp.<\/li>\n
  9. SHOOT!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Wow – it’s a lot of work!<\/p>\n

    But from these shots, you can see it’s pretty much sharp all the way through<\/p>\n

    Darn sun went in!<\/p>\n

    Sharp pylon, most of the oil seed is too – the foreground one was a bit of a pain though!<\/p>\n

    Great for blades of wheat<\/p>\n

    Another one looking down a wheel track – the tree was the background thing to do the tilt-focussing on<\/p>\n
