Selby Abbey – Long Exposure Photography

We have all the time in the world…

That’s what Louis Armstrong sang at the end of a famous James Bond film or two, and if you have some time to spare then get yourself a 15-stop or 10-stop neutral density filter and have a go at long exposure photography.

That’s just what I did in Selby one sunny day, the main reason for taking 2 minutes, or more, over a photo is usually to give a surreal sky or water surface, you will have seen those smooth sea photos below no piers I’m sure.

It was not windy this trip, and there were not many clouds, so not to hello although you can see them from a few of the different angles. It was one of those days where we had sun beaming down for a while and then it disappeared behind the clouds never to be seen again.

You can see the difference it makes with the photos taken at the side of the building, the shadow and the lit parts of the building had a wonderful contrast. Always recommend looking for this kind of contrast when you are photographing any sort of building nevermind on exposures.
