Humber Bridge, Bridlington and Flamborough Head
We had a great day for our 2022 trip over to the east coast, with bright sunshine for pretty much the whole day.
Humber Bridge
As usual, we met at the bridge that goes from Hessle to Barton over the River Humber. It’s a massive suspension bridge with a deck and mile long and we can get right below the deck on the Hessle side. This makes fantastic photographic opportunities using perspective and long exposures to level out the water.
Bridlington
The next stop was Bridlington which is traditionally where we get fish and chips for lunch and then have a walk around the harbour area. This year we had a challenge for everybody, they chose a favourite colour and then had to look for anything that colour and get a creative photograph of it. It to illustrate the challenge I have included my pictures of yellow things. Most of which are warning signs by the looks of it!!
Flamborough head
The final stop and Jewel In The Crown of the trip is Flamborough Head, where we called in at North Landing, Thornwick Bay and Filey down to the Lighthouse on the south side.
We were treated to a fantastic sunset and also near the Lighthouse there was a meeting of the local seals, they had found a Little Bay in which to play and you can see the them on the first few photos in the gallery below.
You will see from some of the seaside photos the water is very very flat, this was achieved by using a 15 stop filter which in bright sunshine gives you a 2-minute exposure time (or longer if you prefer). It brings an extra dimension to coastal photography because it is slightly surreal and not instantly noticeable.
All in all a fantastic day with a great group of photographers and we will be back next year!
