Manchester – Street and Architecture
Having cancelled the first Manchester workshop due to Hurricane winds and monsoon rains, we were all delighted to finally meet and spend the day capturing both the people and architecture in this amazing city.
We started with a coffee on Portland Street, headed into Chinatown, Peter’s Square, are down to Castlefield, the new skyscrapers at the end of Deansgate, along Whitworth Street… Which is only a Small Part of the city centre but was rammed full of amazing things to shoot including hen parties!
We even went into the library which is and wonderful round building resembling the Royal Albert Hall in London, this is got some great sculptures and the interior reading room is spectacular.
Most of what we did in the afternoon was down to composition and timing, , so we would get in position with an interesting photo, and then wait for somebody to walk into the frame to complete the shot. This was great fun in the Castlefield area which is full of potential, with its Bridges and huge Victorian architecture.
The final part of the day was to the media city or Salford Quays area, because it is full of glass buildings and coloured LED lights, all reflected beautifully in the Manchester ship canal.
As you can see there is a big fan shaped Bridge that constantly Cycles through the colour wheel, Imperial War Museum with its large peculiar Tower, The Lowry Theatre which resembles a ship in some weird way, all the ITV and BBC Studios. It really is a fantastic place to spend a sunset
